My African/Thai/missions wall

This is my African/Thai/missions wall.
Like it? I do.

It reminds me to remember the bigger picture and to pray for people sharing the Message.

:D

+My dad bought that clock when he went on a business trip to Thailand. (it glows in the dark!)
+top left picture: my pastor and his wife from the church I went to in Hawaii. They now work with YWAM (youth with a mission) and travel to many different African countries.

+down from the first picture: the Ayer family (their blog). They attend the same church as I do, and they plan to do missions in Ethiopia.

+down from that one: The Gray family (their blog). Just a month ago, they flew to Niger where they will be living as dorm parents!

James 1:1-6

I love taping pictures & cards & painting & theatre stubs & people (aka memories) onto my walls. I have a Valentine's day wall too. :) Hehe. yes, I do :)

My 19th

The week prior to my birthday, we had an ice and snow storm. Our power went out for 3 days, and we had to entertain ourselves the old-fashion way. ;)

Playing King's Corner while my Nate plays background music for us.

Here we are learning poker... our chips were Life cereal. Haha.
We came up with many puns. Example: "You're taking my life away!"
I think I ended up being in debt by 20 pieces... :\ Oh, well. It was just cereal.

No electricity. Just the light of the candles.

We camped out in the living-room to stay warm.
Lucy liked trying out everyone's sleeping bag :)
------------------------------

Nate's birthday was in December, but he didn't have a party, so we had a combined party.

And you might be wondering... how did we make a cake without electricity. Well, I went to my friend's house, and we baked it the night before the party. Thank you, Katherine!! :)

She decorated my side: Once upon a time... Rosala turned 19.
I did Nate's side: HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY NATE.

Kai, me & his card.
:)

Josiah, me and his card.
:)

My aunt is so cute. She sent the gift from Minnesota, so she must have known the bow needed fluffing. :)
---------------------------------------------------

We did Lazer Tag to celebrate! :)
Fun. Fun. Fun.

Make a wish! :)

-----------------------------------

On my actual birthday, my mom and I went shopping! We ate lunch at Red Robin. I got the Chicken teriyaki sandwich. :) Then we went to Target, Forever 21, Value Village, Barnes & Noble (I could spend forever in that store... I ended up reading some of the new book by Katie Davis: Kisses from Katie. Her blog is here), and Cold Stone for dinner. Yummm

End-of-the-day picture :) I love you, mom!

20 by 20

I have dreams and goals.
some are little. some are big. some are important. some are not.
I want to try, to experience, and to accomplish some of these goals this year (before I turn the big 2-0!)

I turned 19 about two weeks ago, and I thought it would be a fun idea to make a 20 by 20 list. I don't know if doing all these things is too much in one year or not, but I'll find out :)

I split up my goals into 4 groups: spiritual, physical, personal & social.

my little wall reminder

Spiritual
1. read the Old Testament: (39 books) it might take a little more dedication and focus to finish the Old Testament rather than the New. (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalm, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi)

2. read the New Testament:
(27 books: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans,1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude, Revelation)

3. fast for 36 hours: in its most basic sense, fasting is refraining from something to be able to focus on something else. I will be giving up food (only drinking water), so that I can focus on God and seek Him and pray more. That hunger-reminder is also a pray-reminder. :)

4. fast for 48 hours: Same as a above, but this time I'll drink water and maybe juice. I don't think it would be a good idea to pass out due to a lack of glucose ;)

5. "pray in the spirit on all occasions" -Ephesians 6:18

Physical
6. do 20 pushups in a row: Haha, this might take a while. :P

7. run 3 miles in 25 minutes: Right now, I can do it in 28 or 29 minutes.

8. do a Sprint Triathlon (either officially or unofficially): swim 16 laps, bike 12 miles and run 3 miles.

9. be a vegan for a week: I have a hard time talking about vegetarianism and veganism. Not because it confuses me, but because I have a hard time explaining to people the reason I want to be a vegetarian (I don't think I could ever be a long-term vegan- I would miss my dairy! haha) Basically, my stance is this: God gave us this planet to live on, and yes, He gave us animals to eat, but that means we should probably take care of both the earth and the animals. I'm not an avid animals' right person, I'd much rather help people (they have a soul). I'm much more passionate about orphans and poverty. That being said, veganism is interesting to me. It takes a lot of creativity and thinking outside of the box and lots of learning. (just one example is this: common red food coloring (Carmine) comes from a scaling insect-- look it up if you don't believe me.) So, we'll see where this goes... my diet that is.

10. Stretch: palms to the ground while knees are locked.... almost there!!

Personal
11. visit Hawaii (aka my family who will be living in HI) :D

12. Read the Help by Kathryn Stockett: 1/5 of the way done

13. Read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

14. fill another journal (at least halfway)-- I got a new one at Barnes & Noble for $5 with my gift card! :)

15. smile more: I don't hold a mirror to my face everyday, so I honestly don't know how much I smile, but I thought this one would be easy. It might balance out the more difficult goals.

Social
16. Make cookies for someone: anyone! :)

17. write and send 20 letters: (I've done: || so far)

18. be an unofficial mentor to younger girls: Basically, I just want to be a good Christian example for younger girls to look to for advice... not that I have any good advice.

19. get 20 people to follow my blog: sounds lame, 20 people. but my reason is valid (I think). If I get twenty followers, that means I'm blogging more frequently and more interestingly...? maybe, I don't know.

20. Meet someone new: Just be more out going and meet new people :)

Due date: January 22, 2013

DIY leg wamers

Again, pinterest has given me more ideas! *love*
I made leg warmers in 2 minutes. All you need is an [old/thrifted] sweater and scissors
...add maybe a sewing machine.

($1 izod sweater at the thrift store)
score!
Cut the sleeves off and there you go : )

Leg warmers!
