Sometimes I have time to do cute & creative things.

but when I say 'creative', I mean I get the ideas from pinterest. go figure, right?

It takes time to cut the notches on top and peel the sides, but it's worth it.

oh, so worth it.

homemade earrings

In late November, I started thinking about what little thing I could "mass-produce" and give to my friends for Christmas. After searching on Pinterest and other blogs, I was sold on the fabric covered button earrings. I got the idea from here and here. 
The hardest part of the project was finding all the supplies I needed at the craft store, but everything went smoothly after that. 

Here's how I made them:

Supplies:
-earring posts (they come in the jewelry section of the store. I used 1/2")
-strong glue (I used gorilla glue)
-button covers (these come with the white circular thing you see in the pictures. They also come with another metal backing that you do NOT need. I just threw them away.)
-fabric scraps
-pliers

Directions: 
Step 1: cut fabric squares about 1.5 inches. 
On step 3: trim a little bit of the extra fabric off after the button cover is in the white thing.
Step 4 & 5: fold the fabric in and glue the earring post on. Step 5 also requires you to use pliers to press the earring post all the way in. After a couple seconds, you can pop the earring out (step 6.) 
Steps 7, 8, and 9 aren't really steps. I just needed nine pictures for this collage.
Then I just cut out hearts from card stock paper (white and off-white) and used a safety pin to create holes. (The earrings go in without a problem if you do this.) At first, I tried doing it without the safety pin, but I quickly stopped when an earring post jammed under my fingernail a few millimeters.

Random fact of the day:

When resting, humans pump all their blood through their heart in ONE minute.

I learned this a few days ago, and I was impressed! : )

I should have gone on and to label the superior&inferior vena cava, aorta, the four valves: bicuspid, tricuspid, pulmonary & aortic, the four septa...

Just like them, you probably don't care either. Haha.

my mom is so cute/creative!

she even made rice krispy treats with hearts on top for us when we came home from school.

I think I ended up making 8 of these for my friends as Christmas presents. I slacked off a little bit, so I had to finish them up in January. :\

DIY leg wamers

Again, pinterest has given me more ideas! *love*

I made leg warmers in 2 minutes. All you need is an [old/thrifted] sweater and scissors

...add maybe a sewing machine.

($1 izod sweater at the thrift store)

Cut the sleeves off and there you go : )

Turquoise Flowers

The other day I made some flowers out of scrap felt that was in a box in the garage.

I was pretty happy with how they turned out seeing as I hadn't made anything like them before.

(The yellow dots are just beads sewn on with thread.)

It's hard to tell from the picture, but all three are a different shade of blue, turquoise, or gray blue.

They can slip onto a thin object such as a headband, safety pin, or bobby pin.
